When to use the website SEO audit
When to use it
Run a website audit before an SEO project, after a redesign or migration, when traffic drops, or every few months as a health check. Unlike the on-page auditor, which checks one page in depth, this crawls your whole site and finds the problems that repeat across many pages.
What it checks
- Technical: HTTPS, broken pages, internal links that redirect, redirect chains and mixed content.
- Indexing: noindex pages, canonicals that point elsewhere, pages blocked by robots.txt, and whether robots.txt lists a sitemap.
- On-page: missing, duplicate, long or short titles and meta descriptions, H1 headings, language and the mobile viewport tag.
- Content, speed and structure: thin pages, images without alt text, structured data, server response time, page size, compression, click depth and pages with few internal links.
How to read the report
Issues are ranked P0 (fix now), P1 (fix soon) and P2 (improve when you can), and the score falls further for problems that affect many pages. Start with Fix these first, open each issue to see the affected pages, and download the CSV to share the full page list with your developer or writer. Some findings need judgement: a noindex on a thank-you page is correct, and a contact page can be short. Run the audit again after each round of fixes to confirm they worked.
Website SEO audit: frequently asked questions
What is a website SEO audit?
A check of every page a search engine can reach on your site, looking for technical, indexing, on-page, speed and structure problems. It shows which issues affect the most pages, so you know where to start.
Why are some of my pages missing from the audit?
The tool only finds pages linked from your own site, up to the page limit you choose, and it respects robots.txt. Pages that only appear after JavaScript runs, or that are not linked anywhere, are not found.
How is this different from the on-page SEO auditor?
The on-page auditor checks one page in depth. The website audit crawls many pages and finds site-wide problems such as broken links, duplicate titles, redirect chains and pages buried deep in the site.
